ree

I sat with myself

As the tears finally came,

All the ones I never let fall.

Tears for the years I spent surviving.

Tears for the decades I carried what shouldn’t have been mine.

Tears for the heartbreak I tried to outrun.

Tears for the devastation I bore alone.

Tears for the weight I took on

before I even knew what weight was.

Tears for the mask I wore

Just to make it through the day.

Tears for the girl who grew into a woman

Who didn’t yet know better.

Tears for the path I never chose,

But kept walking,

Because I didn’t know there was another way.

I stayed.

And I said

I am safe.

I am loved.

I am seen.

Because I taught myself how.

Because I learned to sit and stay,

To hold and nurture,

To be the steady presence

I always needed.

Peace.

Honey.

Home.
